Showcase Recap: Top Receiver & Tight End Performances

Testing events are consistently one of the most valuable evaluation settings for wide receivers and tight ends. Speed, explosiveness, and agility can be measured directly, while position work and competition periods provide context for ball skills, timing, and physicality. This year’s group featured strong performances across both categories, with several prospects clearly elevating their stock.

Test-Out Standouts

Lucas Lambert — Logan (2028) | TE
One of the most physically impressive athletes in attendance. Despite his imposing frame, he delivered strong testing numbers with a sub-4.6 40-yard dash, 4.52 shuttle, and nearly 9’0” broad jump. Rare combination of size and movement skills with a high recruitment ceiling.

Rudy Carillo — Fairmont Senior (2027)
Delivered one of the most complete performances of the entire event for the second straight year. Posted blazing 4.5 speed, elite 4.36 shuttle, and a camp-best 9’7” broad jump. Consistently separated himself in drills with top-tier explosiveness and fluidity.

Travis Owens — Pendleton County (2028)
Ranked among the top athleticism scores in the group. Long, lean build with strong testing numbers across the board, including a 9’0”+ broad jump. Showed command in drills and moved efficiently for his frame.

Kellan Wolverton — Lewis County (2027) | TE
Breakout performance at tight end. Long-limbed athlete with strong functional speed and solid testing numbers. Showed clear versatility and will be a viable option on both sides of the ball.

Blake Johnson — North Marion (2027)
One of the most consistent testers across all categories. Posted a ~4.6 40 and sub-4.40 shuttle. Looked sharp in 1v1 competition and projects as a legitimate two-way contributor.

Jace McCoy — Ripley (2027)
Breakout showing with steady production across testing metrics, including a 4.65 40, 4.45 shuttle, and 9’0”+ broad jump. Competed well throughout the day and showed continued development.

Zane Wipf — Martinsburg (2027)
As expected, delivered a strong all-around performance. Finished in the top tier of testing across categories, highlighted by a near 9’0” broad jump. Impact player on both offense and defense.

Donte Newsome — Huntington (2027)
Backed up his high pre-camp ranking with a productive day. Solid testing numbers, but stood out even more for his hands and overall ball production during catching periods.

Big Bodies

Gabe Fuller — Morgantown (2027) | TE
Also projects along the defensive line, but showed impressive movement ability for his size. Fluid athlete who can operate in space and create matchup problems.

Preston Heartherington — (2027) | TE
One of the most consistent tight ends on the day. Established himself as a top in-state option due to his ability to win mismatches and create separation in multiple alignments.

Peyton Nicola — Morgantown (2027) | TE
Primarily projects defensively, but has the frame and athletic tools to contribute as a move tight end. Brings positional versatility.

Brody Jeran — Bridgeport (2027) | TE
Defensive overhang projection, but physical enough to be a factor at tight end as both a blocker and short-to-intermediate receiving option.

Tanzer George — Morgantown (2027)
Lean receiver who consistently created separation. Played above his frame with strong field-stretching ability and reliable hands in contested situations.

Konner James — Independence (2029)
Young breakout prospect. Tested well and immediately stood out physically for his age group with size, range, and early developmental upside.

On the Map

Parker Platt — Sherman (2027) | TE
Solid across both testing and drills. Generated consistent attention from coaches throughout the day.

Kyler Fisher — Ripley (2027)
Strong testing performance and emerging as an underrated prospect. Positioned for a significant senior-year jump.

Jordan Whitehead — Capital (2028)
Moved very well with sub-4.7 speed. Athletic profile suggests a potential breakout heading into junior season.

Noah Evans — Sissonville (2027)
Posted solid testing numbers and showed reliable hands in passing periods with several clean catches.

Trent Roles — Meadow Bridge (2027)
Stepped up during both testing and competition. Competed well and capitalized on opportunities.

Cooper Roush — Wahama (2028)
Solid testing numbers paired with strong on-field performance. Natural football player who stood out in live action.
