The Top Tight Ends & Snappers in WV (Class of 2027)

Snappers

Longsnappers remain one of the most under-discussed but essential roles, and the 2027 class has several reliable options. Hedgesville’s Brayden Hess brings strong size and physicality, contributing on both sides of the ball while also handling snapping duties with consistency. Princeton’s Carter Tipton offers a similar build with added mobility, pairing his snapping with linebacker responsibilities. Huntington’s Grady Franks rounds out the group as one of the more consistently praised snappers, trusted across multiple special teams units for his reliability and accuracy.

Dual-Purpose

This group highlights tight ends who are used as movable chess pieces rather than traditional in-line players. Hurricane’s Devon Short fits this mold well, lining up at tight end, running back, and receiver while using his muscular frame to create mismatches. Philip Barbour’s Sean Dent was utilized in a variety of ways, from slot alignments to in-line blocking, showing versatility beyond a standard role. Man’s Jake Endicott also stands out here, bringing a physical edge as both a blocker and occasional ball carrier, complementing his defensive presence.

Receivers

Some tight ends in the class lean more heavily into their receiving ability, creating mismatches in coverage. Bridgeport’s Sean Veltri is a strong blocker but made his biggest impact finding soft spots over the middle and producing as a pass catcher. Lewis County’s Kellan Wolverton (Buckhannon-Upshur in 2025) brings length and upside, showing flashes as a developing receiving threat with room to grow physically and technically.

3. Antonyo Paschall

Huntington’s Antonyo Paschall (6’3”, 205) made a significant jump as a junior, transitioning into a versatile offensive weapon. He was used in multiple roles—blocking in the run game, lining up in the slot, and even taking handoffs—showing a wide skillset.

His physicality as a blocker stands out, particularly leading in the run game, while his athleticism allows him to be effective in space. That versatility makes him an appealing multi-role prospect at the next level.

2. Preston Heatherington

Wheeling Park’s Preston Heatherington (6’3”, 205) profiles as a true receiving tight end with strong upside. His length and lean frame allow him to find openings in coverage and create big plays after the catch.

He shows the ability to separate both inside and outside while also making contested catches. With added weight and continued development, he could either grow into a complete tight end or transition into a larger receiver role.

1. Keian Shelton

Cabell Midland’s Keian Shelton (6’5”, 225) stands as the clear top tight end in the class. His combination of size, stride length, and athleticism allows him to cover ground quickly and consistently find space in coverage.

He pairs that with elite ball skills, showing the ability to win contested catches and create after the catch. His blocking is also well-developed, making him a complete tight end prospect with multiple Division I offers already in place.
