C&C previously took a look at the top 2027 quarterback class several months ago with the full article here, but here is the full breakdown.
Looking back at that evaluation, the RISERS group featured a mix of emerging senior quarterbacks, small-school producers, and high-upside athletic passers who elevated their stock during the 2025 season.
Key risers included Jamere Knuckles (Mingo Central), Maddox Balog (Sissonville), Jared Miller (Winfield), and Chaz Milburn (Hedgesville, now at Spring Mills), all showing growth in command, arm talent, and overall passing consistency.
The small-school group featured Preston May (Tug Valley), Eli Pauley (Sherman), and Corey Coen (Clay-Battelle), each producing at a high level in their respective classifications.
The ATHLETES tier included Trace Simpkins (Wahama), Kheelan Curry (Spring Mills), Addison Brafford (Keyser), Isaiah Heflin (Robert C. Byrd), Gage Price (Woodrow Wilson), and Jake Belcher (Princeton), highlighting versatile playmakers with multi-position value.
The top five quarterbacks were led by Harrison Helbig (University) at No. 1, followed by Brian Dick (Martinsburg), Jay Bordas (Wheeling Park), Nico Kusic (Wheeling Central), and Braylon Holmes (Jefferson), each recognized for production, tools, and long-term projection.
Updates
Since the release of the top names to watch, several developments have reshaped parts of the quarterback landscape. While transfer activity remained limited overall, Chaz Milburn made a notable move to Spring Mills. Milburn brings one of the more underrated arms in the state into an offensive system that has consistently produced productive and efficient passing production, making him a key addition heading into the season.
Across the camp circuit, several quarterbacks who previously stood out primarily on film validated their profiles with strong athletic testing and on-field athleticism. Eli Pauley (Sherman), Trace Simpkins (Wahama), and Brian Dick (Martinsburg) all separated themselves as athletic movers, showing they can extend plays and add value beyond structure.
A group of versatile quarterbacks including Gage Price (Woodrow Wilson), Addison Brafford (Keyser), and Isaiah Heflin (Robert C. Byrd) continued to reinforce their status as multi-dimensional prospects capable of fitting into a variety of offensive systems. Their ability to function both as passers and athletes has become a consistent theme in their evaluations.
Trevor Roof (East Hardy) also delivered another strong statement at the showcase, displaying one of the most polished pure arms in attendance. He continues trending toward the top tier of Class A quarterbacks as his combination of arm strength and control becomes more evident with each evaluation window.
Two of the biggest breakout performances came from Nico Kusic (Wheeling Central) and Jake Belcher (Princeton), both of whom posted standout testing numbers that ranked among the best at the event. Kusic’s performance translated directly into recruiting momentum, earning recent offers from Wheeling and West Liberty. Additional recruiting movement included Jay Bordas (Wheeling Park), who picked up an offer from Glenville State, and Jamere Knuckles (Mingo Central), who received an offer from Bluefield State.
New Names
New quarterback names continue to emerge as evaluations expand across camps and updated film. Cyrus Kump (Moorefield) stands out early in this group, checking every major physical and functional box at the showcase with size, mobility, and a solid arm profile.
Brennan Carpenter (Roane County, transfer from Calhoun County) has also steadily climbed boards following a strong transition and improved overall command of the position.
Another name trending upward is Jackson Moore (Ripley), who continues to gain attention with improved consistency and growing confidence as a passer, positioning himself as a player to monitor closely moving forward.
