Man
2025 Record: 3-7
SSAC Rank: #15 (Round One)
The Hillbillies navigated one of the toughest schedules in Class A during the 2025 season. While the win-loss record may not have reflected it, the strength of competition helped propel Man back into the postseason after a one-year absence.
Several talented seniors return to lead the program, including athletic box player Jake Endicott and all-state standout Jacob Toler. Their leadership will be critical as the Hillbillies once again face a demanding slate.
The challenges begin immediately with Logan and continue throughout the season with key contests against Westside, Greenbrier West, and Tolsia. If Man can navigate that stretch successfully, another playoff appearance is well within reach.
Sherman
2025 Record: 8-2
SSAC Rank: #5 (Round One)
The Tide continued their emergence as one of Class A’s premier programs, posting their third consecutive season as a legitimate championship contender. Their regular season included only two losses, highlighted by a narrow two-point defeat against eventual state runner-up Clay-Battelle.
While Sherman graduated several accomplished seniors, the program returns more experience than many teams across the classification. Athletic quarterback Eli Pauley and explosive two-way threat Colby Atkins headline a talented returning core.
The schedule becomes significantly tougher in 2026, featuring higher-classification opponents James Monroe, Wayne, Scott, and Poca, along with important Class A contests against Man and Tug Valley. Despite the increased difficulty, another deep playoff run appears likely.
Tolsia
2025 Record: 3-7
SSAC Rank: #16 (Round One)
The Rebels battled through one of the state’s most difficult schedules and capped the regular season with a crucial victory to secure a second consecutive playoff appearance.
Fortunately for Tolsia, all-around standout Robert Evans returns to lead the program in 2026. His versatility and athleticism will be key as the Rebels once again face a brutal road.
Class AA opponents Wayne and Sissonville provide immediate tests, while late-season matchups against Tug Valley, Sherman, Man, and Wirt County will shape the playoff race. The schedule may be difficult, but the strength points earned along the way should work in Tolsia’s favor.
Tug Valley
2025 Record: 6-4
SSAC Rank: #9 (Round One)
The Panthers enjoyed another successful season in 2025, winning five consecutive games during the middle of the year before injuries began to take their toll. Even so, Tug Valley fought its way back into the postseason.
Despite graduating several key contributors, the offense should remain dangerous thanks to the return of quarterback Preston May and dynamic receiver Cameron Slone. Together, they form one of the more productive returning duos in Class A.
The Panthers open with a challenging matchup against Mingo Central before entering a demanding closing stretch that includes Wayne, Man, and James Monroe. Navigating those contests successfully could position Tug Valley for another postseason run.
Wahama
2025 Record: 10-0
SSAC Rank: #2 (Quarterfinals)
The White Falcons followed their 2024 state championship season with another dominant campaign, finishing the regular season undefeated before injuries eventually caught up with them during the playoffs.
Expectations remain exceptionally high. The backfield returns two of the fastest and most explosive players in the classification in quarterback Trace Simpkins and two-way standout Trevyon Bearhs. Their playmaking ability keeps Wahama among the favorites to contend for a championship.
The schedule takes a significant step up in difficulty with the additions of Midland Trail and Frankfort. Those games should provide valuable preparation as the White Falcons pursue another deep playoff run.
