Updates
There were a couple of notable transfer movements within this group, including David Robinson Jr. moving from Capital to Herbert Hoover and Rudy Carrillo transferring from Fairmont Senior to Morgantown. Both additions bring immediate athletic impact and depth to their respective secondaries.
The rising senior defensive back class saw significant activity across the camp circuit, with several players boosting their recruiting profiles through strong performances. Addison Brafford (Keyser), Isaiah Heflin (Robert C. Byrd), and Donte Newsome (Huntington) all delivered standout outings, each translating improved camp performances into increased recruiting attention. The same trend applies to Blake Johnson (North Marion), who continues to trend upward following a strong offseason showing.
One of the most impressive athletic performances at the showcase came from Treyvon Bearh (Wahama), who posted one of the top overall testing results among all defensive backs, further solidifying his status as one of the premier athletes in the group.
On the recruiting side, Hayden George (University) picked up multiple offers, including in-state opportunities from Glenville State and West Virginia State. Boston Todd (Martinsburg) earned his first Division I offer from Morgan State, marking a major step in his recruitment. David Hill (South Charleston) also had a major breakthrough following strong showcase performances, adding multiple Mountain East Conference offers and significantly elevating his profile.
New Names
Several new names continue to emerge within the 2027 defensive back group as evaluations expand.
Gideon Winfrey (Tyler Consolidated) and Jaedyn Katchur (University) have both begun drawing attention with consistent offseason performances, while Deonte Humphrey (Martinsburg) is another young defensive back starting to appear on recruiting radars.
One of the biggest breakout performances at the showcase came from Jace McCoy (Ripley), who delivered a strong all-around showing that immediately elevated his standing among defensive back prospects in the state.
