2018 Coalfields Clinic ~ First Annual
On January 20th, 2018- Coalfields & Co. helped host our first annual clinic at Tamarack in Beckley, WV. It had tremendous results with coaches coming from hours away to speak and attend. We were able to have some of the brightest minds of West Virginia football of the past, present, and future.
Nate Tanner of Martinsville High School (VA) led an extensive talk on the unbalanced spread offense. Dave Moneypenny of Fayetteville followed him up with an in-depth look at his respected Fayetteville Defense. In our unique turn, we invited Derrick Hypes and Seth Angell of The Mountaineer Youth Program and Pikeview Middle School, respectively, speak on the importance of youth and middle school programs.
After a fantastic lunch fixed by the famous Tamarack kitchen, we had a treat with legendary coach Glen McNew, known for his excellent Morgantown teams, who discussed two parts of the 20 Series Wing T with Proper Waggle Instruction. Building on that, Allen Fidler out of Patrick Henry (VA) showed his secrets to his offense which has won multiple state championships.
Finishing up the money’s worth clinic, Max Lilly of Concord University gave a presentation on their successful quarters coverage. Greg Mance from Richlands (VA) showed us the other side and his state championship offense. Finally, Paul Price, the head coach of Concord University, presented the Concord Defense which has garnered national recognition under his reign as coordinator and coach.
Our first annual clinic was a smashing success but only from the help of the speakers and those who made the drive to attend. Also, a big thank you Tamarack for top quality facilities. The clinic succeeded in having an environment of the mixing of minds and a collaborative comradery. An awesome event and we look forward to the next one.
