2022 Recap

The 2022 football season for the St. Albans Red Dragons was undoubtedly a challenging one. With a disappointing 0-10 record, the team faced numerous obstacles on both offense and defense. Despite their struggles, the Red Dragons displayed resilience and fought hard in several closely contested games, particularly against Ripley and South Charleston. With a little luck, their fortunes could have turned in those pivotal moments.

Offensively, the Red Dragons faced difficulties in finding the end zone consistently throughout the season. Averaging just 11 points per game, the team often encountered challenges in breaking through opposing defenses. Defensively, St. Albans faced an uphill battle, surrendering an average of 48 points per game. While the numbers may be discouraging, it is important to note that the Red Dragons faced formidable opponents throughout the season.

The games against Ripley and South Charleston stand out as prime examples of the Red Dragons’ potential. In both contests, St. Albans showed tremendous resilience and pushed their opponents to the brink. With just a few fortunate bounces of the ball, the outcomes could have been vastly different, potentially altering the perception of the season as a whole. These close matchups serve as motivation for the team, proving that they have the capability to compete at a high level.

Although the 2022 season may not have yielded the desired results in terms of wins and losses, the St. Albans Red Dragons should be commended for their unwavering determination and perseverance. Despite facing adversity week after week, the team continued to battle and never lost sight of their potential. The lessons learned from this challenging season will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for future success.

2023 Outlook

After enduring a disappointing winless season last year, the St. Albans Red Dragons football team, under the guidance of Head Coach Willie Washington, is determined to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming 2023 season. With key players such as tight end Xavier Patterson  and offensive lineman Evan Rowe, the Red Dragons are looking to make a strong comeback.

The key player to watch this season for the Red Dragons is tight end Xavier Patterson. Known for his athleticism, excellent route-running skills, and sure hands, Patterson will play a vital role in the offensive scheme. His ability to create mismatches against opposing defenses could provide the Red Dragons with the much-needed edge to score crucial points and secure victories.

Meanwhile, offensive lineman Evan Rowe will be a linchpin in the Red Dragons’ offensive line. His imposing physical presence and technical proficiency will be crucial in establishing a solid running game and protecting the quarterback. Rowe’s leadership and experience will also play a vital role in mentoring the younger linemen on the team.

Although the Red Dragons face a challenging schedule this season, with formidable opponents such as Nitro, Riverside, and Ripley, these key matchups offer opportunities for the team to prove their mettle. Victories in these games would not only boost team morale but also provide the necessary momentum to get back on track and register wins.

As the anticipation for the upcoming season builds, the St. Albans community stands firmly behind their beloved Red Dragons. With Head Coach Willie Washington leading the charge and an impressive group of key players ready to make their mark, the Red Dragons are poised to rise from the ashes and showcase their newfound strength.

The entire football program, from coaching staff to players, is united in their shared goal of redemption. St. Albans’ dedicated fans eagerly await the kickoff of the 2023 season, eager to witness the reemergence of their beloved Red Dragons and the realization of their aspirations for a successful football campaign.
