2022 Recap

In the highly anticipated 2022 football season, the Riverside Warriors faced their fair share of ups and downs, culminating in a 3-7 record. Although the team’s performance might not reflect their full potential, their hard-fought battles and moments of triumph showcased the resilience and determination that define the Warriors’ spirit.

The Warriors kicked off the season with two fiercely contested games that could have set the tone for the entire year. Unfortunately, they narrowly fell short, losing by a single score to both Woodrow Wilson and Parkersburg. These close encounters could have easily shifted the team’s momentum, turning the tide in their favor. Nonetheless, they valiantly pushed forward, eager to prove their mettle.

Amidst the challenges, the Riverside Warriors managed to claim victories over St. Albans, South Charleston, and Lincoln County. These wins demonstrated their ability to rise above adversity and seize opportunities when they presented themselves. Each victory provided a much-needed boost to the team’s morale and reinforced their unwavering determination to overcome obstacles.

Offensively, the Warriors showcased their scoring prowess, averaging 23 points per game.  Despite the team’s overall record, their offensive capabilities kept them in contention throughout the season, giving fans hope for a brighter future. Defensively, the Warriors faced a more challenging task, conceding an average of 27 points per game. While the team strived to keep opponents at bay, their valiant efforts were met with formidable adversaries.

As the 2022 season concludes, the Riverside Warriors reflect on the challenges they faced and the lessons learned. The close defeats at the beginning of the season served as a poignant reminder that victory often hangs by the slimmest of margins. Nevertheless, the team’s indomitable spirit persisted, driving them to fight until the final whistle.

The 2022 Riverside Warriors football team may not have achieved the record they had hoped for, but their resilience and determination in the face of adversity demonstrated their potential for greatness. As they regroup and rebuild, the Warriors remain committed to the pursuit of victory, knowing that the next season holds new opportunities for success.

2023 Outlook

As the 2023 high school football season kicks off, all eyes are on the Riverside Warriors as they strive to bounce back from a disappointing 3-7 record in the previous year. With Head Coach Alex Daugherty entering his sixth season at the helm, the Warriors are determined to regain their winning ways and secure a spot in the playoffs. With a talented roster and a challenging schedule in the Mountain State Athletic Conference (MSAC), the team is gearing up for an exciting season.

Key players to watch this fall include defensive back Bryce Green, linebacker Evan Critchfield, defensive back Jakob Shanklin, lineman JR Cochran, running back Bishop Hairston, and offensive lineman Sam Peters. These athletes have shown exceptional skill and determination during offseason workouts and are expected to make significant contributions to the team’s overall performance. Their athleticism, versatility, and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the Warriors’ quest for victory.

However, the path to redemption won’t be an easy one for the Riverside Warriors, as they face a challenging schedule within the highly competitive MSAC. Week in and week out, they will be tested by formidable opponents, showcasing the level of talent and competitiveness within their conference. Notable matchups against Woodrow Wilson and St. Albans loom large on the schedule, and these games will likely have a significant impact on the team’s playoff aspirations.

As the 2023 football season approaches, the Riverside Warriors are ready to leave their disappointing previous season behind and embark on a journey of redemption. Coach Alex Daugherty’s leadership, combined with the talents of key players like Bryce Green, Evan Critchfield, Jakob Shanklin, Bishop Hairston, and Sam Peters, offer a strong foundation for success. With a grueling schedule in the MSAC, every game will be a battle, but the Warriors are determined to rise to the occasion and make their mark in West Virginia high school football once again.
