AAA Team to Watch: Spring Valley

The valley is always packed with talent and once again Spring Valley has a good portion of it. The Timberwolves have more Top 5 players than any other team in the state. This includes quarterback Jack Roy, tight end Corbin Page, linemen Wyatt Milum and Bryce Biggs, and defensive back Brody Brumfield. They also have other high caliber players like lineman Evan Ferguson and linebacker Zane Brumfield.

Spring Valley, of course, will have to play an intense MSAC schedule that features the annual powerhouses. The Timberwolves should have a relentless line paving the way for a tough run game as well as utilizing the arm of Roy. Their defense is annually great and overall, this looks like a title-contending team.

AA Team to Watch: Poca

The program has come full circle for 2020. The class that helped bring the Dots back from the dead are now seniors and ready to make another splash. Last year’s impressive campaign yet frustrating end should have a well-fueled fire burning underneath them. Their success begins obviously with reigning powerhouse runningback Ethan Payne. The Marshall commit has been amazing since a freshman and keeps getting more athletic and impactful on both sides.

They have other top-notch talent such as linebacker Dillon Taylor- who was among the tackle leaders statewide in 2019. They also have Ethan’s younger brother, Toby, as a specimen athlete playing wide receiver and defensive back. On top of all this they have Jay Cook, a proven winner, at quarterback running the show. The ceiling is the roof and spirits are high for Poca.

A Team to Watch: Man

The 2019 AA breakouts are now the sleeping giants in Class A. They return much of their firepower from their 2019 AA playoff team. The most notable players on offense are backs Josh Moody and Cameran Frye. Both are electric and should dominate the Class A field. Their best unit most likely will be their defense led by hard-nosed mike backer Erick Grimmett and a crew of all-state linemen.

Man, despite reclassifying down, perhaps increased the strength of their schedule. The Hillbillies will truly be tested all year long. Regardless, Man should be on everyone’s list as a potential to win the Class A title. The Hillbillies have, however, lost their first two games due to their county color code and a projected lack of practices. This is a wrench but good teams can overcome.
