What to Expect
One year ago today, Doddridge County and Tyler Consolidated had one of, if not the most, explosive games of 2018. Hunter America capitalized on his spectacular week one performance by following up with over 450 yards and seven touchdowns. Mark Rucker from Tyler Consolidated also had a remarkable 250 yard and five touchdown night. The Bulldogs would win 62-43, but we, the fans, were all winners.
Luckily, both those men are back and both teams have very different goals heading in. Doddridge County has lost one game since 2017 and that was in the semifinals to eventual champ Wheeling Central. Loaded with all-state seniors and big play ability, it’s clear that their eyes are on the prize. This was reflected in their 49-6 opening victory over South Harrison.
Tyler Consolidated comes in licking their wounds after Ritchie County poured it on with a 58-20 dismantling. Obviously they are looking to make the postseason and pulling out a win here would be absolutely monumental. They will have the Bulldogs on the road and potentially riding too high from their previous week’s success.
If Doddridge County plays to their level, expect the Bulldogs to pull away in the third quarter at least. Hunter America is still a force and if too much is stockpiled in the middle to stop him, they have all state receiver Griffin Devericks out wide. Defensively, they will need to limit Mark Rucker as much as possible. This will be difficult because he is such a threat running and receiving. You can’t bank on giving up 43 points again and winning.
