Kennedy Watch Update (Week Four)

Gathering Attention

Hunter America (RB) Doddridge County

Will Hackney (QB) Sissonville

Ty Wilcoxon (RB) Huntington

#5 Ivan Vaughn

CabellMidlandKnights

Despite a 40-10 whooping delivered by Hurricane, Ivan Vaughn still managed 181 yards.  However, it is without denial, that the team’s success is important to a Kennedy Award candidate. Though much better than the Spring Valley performance, there are a lot of terrific players in the state.  The road does not get much easier from here either as they take on Capital this next week.

#4 Malakai Brown

HedgesvilleEagles

The state’s most consistent receiver struck again in a blowout against Jefferson.  With some points, six catches, and 150 yards, Brown continues a streak of 100+ games and a touchdown snag.  He’s on a similar pace to his incredible sophomore season, and he is always liable to go off even more with 200+ yards and more than a few a touchdowns.  Definitely sticking in the Kennedy Award talk.

#3 Logan Holgorsen

UniversityHawks

Holgorsen showed out against #5 Wheeling Park despite losing and being under pressure all night.  He tossed five touchdown passes of all types and was also an elusive presence on the ground.  He has two amazing receivers to keep this offensive train rolling.  They will match up with another powerhouse this next week with another Kennedy Award candidate in Connor Neal.

#2 Connor Neal

FairmontSeniorPolarBears

How do you make another jump in the Kennedy Award discussion?  Throw for 309 yards and four touchdowns against the #4 team in the state.  Without his starting runningbacks, Neal didn’t miss a beat with a very efficient and impressive passing performance.  His lack of turnovers but ability to hit big throws is nearly unmatched at this point.  He will have another opportunity to make a jump taking on AAA University.

#1 Kerry Martin Jr.

CapitalCougars

Martin Jr.’s Kennedy run is suffering slightly from the ability of this teammates.  They are just phenomenal in all facets of the game.  His need to rack up crazy yards is unneeded with playmakers at all three phases.  Despite that, he had over 200 yards and several scores in a tough fought win against Parkersburg.  There are some stellar players looking to take the top spot, however.
