PRELIMINARIES

Wirt County at Gilmer County

For these two teams put into a rebuilding phase, they will butt heads in an important early game.  Wirt County is 1-1 coming off a loss to Calhoun County and big win over Paden City.  On the other hand, Gilmer has fell to Clay County and Richwood.  They will finally have a crack at a team more towards their level in a much needed morale boost.  The Tigers will need this victory to make a case towards .500 this year.

C&C Prediction: Wirt County (21) Gilmer County (13)

Elkins at Lewis County

Elkins’ two big runners, Daniel Romans and Thomas Talkington, have delivered thus far with impressive week one and two performances.  Lewis County, however, has had to battle #2 Fairmont Senior and #4 Bridgeport.  They fought valiantly behind the play of Caden Rohrbraugh  at QB, but they were definitely outmatched.  This matchup is key for them to get back on track and will be prosperous in quality points.

James Monroe at #5 Weir

James Monroe started their year tough with a shutout loss to AAA Greenbrier East.  Weir has steamrolled two inferior opponents.  Now, Monroe Mohler and his Mavericks must make the long long drive all the way to the northern panhandle to take on the red hot Red Riders which has seen absolute dominance with Tyler Komorowski at QB.  The defense has been stout as well.  Either way, this will be Weir’s best test yet into 2018.

C&C Prediction: Weir (63) James Monroe (28)

East Hardy at #1 Wheeling Central

It’s been awhile since the Cougars have been 0-2.  The chances of them being 0-3 seem to be in the making.  With an OT loss and blowout loss to Frankfort, East Hardy must travel to Wheeling to take on a Maroon Knight team which has dominated everyone.  Curtis McGhee III has played few quarters and the defense has been nothing but relentless.  The odds are heavily against East Hardy.

UNDERCARD

#7 Musselman at Jefferson

Jefferson lost a heartbreaker week one, and also had to take on one of the best teams in Virginia. Antoine Lewis is #2 in the state in receiving yards, and he’ll need to be just as prolific to take out the Applemen. Blake Hartman has proven to be a top player in the state and Tre Beard III has been a pure touchdown machine at quarterback. Slowing them down on offense is key but much easier said than done.

C&C Prediction: Mussleman (40) Jefferson (28)

George Washington at #4 Huntington

Despite Grant Wells’ near 400-yard passing performance, he couldn’t take out the now #1 team in Kentucky.  To weather the hard L, they get to travel to Huntington who has given up less than 10 points in back-to-back weeks.  The notorious Highlander line has found a consistent back to maximize their talents with Ty Wilcoxon- who ran for three scores last week.  The odds are against the Patriots especially with Dakota Cosby out for the year, but anytime Wells is out there- anything can happen.

C&C Prediction: Huntington (35) George Washington (14)

#2 Fairmont Senior at North Marion

Fairmont Senior has looked like nothing but a title team so far.  Connor Neal has put up bonkers numbers, the defense is incredible, and now Breeden Gilbert has arrived after a four touchdown performance.  North Marion, after blowing a week one lead, bounced back with 297 yards on the ground by Desmond Fluarty against AAA Preston.  He’ll need to run for that and much more to upset the red hot Polar Bears.

C&C Prediction: Fairmont Senior (49) North Marion (10)

#10 Morgantown at Fort Hill (MD)

Morgantown’s 4-point loss to usual Ohio superpower Steubenville was enough to keep them in the top ten.  Once again, they must travel out of state to take on another usual power.  Fort Hill will open up with a Mohigan team that thrives off their giant line and tough running from Ty Konchesky.  The defense has also become great at taking the ball away.  They will need all the cylinders to pump correctly to take this one.

C&C Prediction: Morgantown (24) Fort Hill (21)

MAIN CARD

#9 Hurricane at #3 Capital

Hurricane suffered a tough loss to Spring Valley last week.  They battled hard but were just outmatched.  Instead of smashmouth, they must cover speed speed speed this week.  Behind the obvious Kerry Martin Jr., this offense has not slowed down.  Chance Knox broke through last week with four touchdowns (three catching- one returning) to go along with other big threats.  Hurricane will need to play a lot of cards right to walk into Laidley and get a win.

C&C Prediction: Capital (49) Hurricane (21)

Grafton at Petersburg

Cue the Caleb Bish vs Jacob Hartman matchup.  Grafton has hopped out to a 2-0 start behind their runningback and his stellar defensive play.  The Bearcats have impressed a lot.  Petersburg has put up prolific numbers behind their quarterback who has tossed seven scores in two games.  We are excited to see a Big Ten vs Panhandle crossover game to help paint the picture for how good these teams really are.

C&C Prediction: Petersburg (34) Grafton (28) OT

Fayetteville at #4 Richwood

Two programs in the talks of consolidation find themselves at 2-0.  Richwood has gotten their’s in a much more explosive fashion.  WR Michael McGee leads the state in receiving touchdowns and QB Caleb Jantuah is a dual-threat monster.  Jeremiah Johnston toted well last game as well.  Fayetteville will once again rely on Jordan Dempsey.  It should be an interesting night between two undefeated teams.

El Writer (Richwood) Writer2 (Richwood) Third Writer (Richwood)
Wide Writer (Richwood) Shotgun Writer (Richwood) Writer OOI (Richwood)

C&C Prediction: Richwood (28) Fayetteville (10)

#10 Robert C. Byrd at Keyser

Robert C. Byrd had a bounce back win after a disappointing opener.  Ghovan Davidson rushed for 200+ against Lincoln while Keyser opened up fresh with a dominant win over Berkeley Springs.  This will be an interesting take to see where they truly are.  We know the Eagle’s relevance to the tip top but how good is Keyser?  A lot of questions will be answered here.

C&C Prediction: Keyser (27) Robert C. Byrd (20)

MAIN EVENT

#2 Spring Valley at #5 Cabell Midland

One of the most anticipated matchups this year.  The Scarlet Knights host the Timberwolves in a perennial bloody battle.  Both are coming off blowout wins over arguable top ten teams.  Spring Valley has relied on a variety of horses while Cabell Midland feels safe in Ivan Vaughn and his second-in-the-state rushing yardage.  This will be an absolute battle up front with the fight for possession coming into play early.  A must see game.

C&C Prediction: Spring Valley (21) Cabell Midland (17)
