The purpose of the C&Co. Rating is to get a better look at a team’s true level of play. The full formula won’t be released, but it emphasizes several things: strength of schedule, quality of win (blowout, either way, etc.), and consistency. Some teams have one great game or one terrible game so each team’s best and worst performance are dropped to really dig into the meat of their schedule. There is also the fact of how much they dominated teams they should have killed. This is why Martinsburg had a weaker schedule than Huntington but didn’t let anyone close. This is by no way a proposed way to seed playoffs as the SSAC Rating system is truly unbiased, but we believe this is a good rating system as well.

Upon examination, the ratings matchup with a lot of outcomes of games. Games that previously seemed like upsets, make more sense here ex. South Harrison over Liberty (Harrison) or Greenbrier West over Fayetteville. Many quality teams were snubbed out of the playoffs, but the best two on paper were easily Pikeview and North Marion. The lowest team in was Fayetteville. Winfield’s hot streak is the best explanation to why they finished higher than a Hurricane team who beat them Week One. Philip Barbour finished with a lower rating than expected. Single A is definitely the most spaced out heading into the playoffs. Here of some final rating results:
Hardest AAA Schedule: TIE Cabell Midland, Morgantown, Hurricane (67.5)
Easiest AAA Schedule: TIE Hedgesville, John Marshall, Ripley, Buckhannon-Upshur (52.5)
Hardest AA Schedule: TIE Lewis County, Keyser (52.5)
Easiest AA Schedule: TIE Lincoln County, Clay County (41.2)
